Detox: The Quick & Tasty Way
May 8, 2008“Detoxing” is a term that gets thrown around a lot in the health world. The shelves at Whole Foods and natural grocery stores are stocked with products which promise to help your body detox.
I notice that most people view toxins simply as impurities that may, over time, cause illness. This perspective overlooks one of toxins’ biggest downsides: they accelerate the aging process. That’s right, even when toxins do not make you physically sick, they are attacking and breaking down your body.
If the body is high in toxins - due environment, diet, chemicals we put in our body or on our skin (use pure products!), the liver will become toxic.
The liver is the blood’s filtering system, and we need it to clean our blood. But when it gets overloaded, our livers stop filtering and neutralizing the toxins and poisons in our blood. These excess toxins continue circulating inside our bodies and are deposited in fatty tissue.
This toxic overload causes cells to lack oxygen, water, and nutrients. Needless to say, the longer the excess continues, the worse off our cells are. Eventually they die. The long-term effects of toxic overload are manifested externally in the form of wrinkles and spotted, leathery skin.
In short, the liver and blood must be clean to maximize the beauty of our skin. There are lots of ways to detox. One of the easiest and tastiest is this healthy tea:
In a mug, combine the following with boiled water:
- Fresh lemon juice (1/4 or 1/3 of a lemon)
- 2 inches of ginger root- peeled and chopped
- Agave or Raw Honey- to sweeten to your taste
The lemon and ginger in this tea improve lymph and blood circulation, cleaning the blood. An organic lemon has over 200 enzymes, making it one of the most restorative foods for the liver. It also contains a unique type of calcium that grows toward the sunlight (anionic). This facilitates restoration of the liver because the liver’s secretions are also anionic and will be drawn outward with sun exposure.
While lemon ginger flavored tea is available at most stores in teabag form, this tea is much more effective when made with fresh ingredients!
