Lay Off The Sunscreen
May 7, 2008Everyone knows that too much sun, just like too much food, is harmful to the skin and body. For whatever reason, people are still baking themselves in the sun, putting skin cancers and photoaging on the rise.
But let’s back up a minute. The sun has gotten a really bad rap these last few years. Sunshine still remains an essential component of beauty and health. Sensible sun exposure every day (under 30 min., depending on the fairness of the skin) has plenty of benefits:
- Vitamin D is formed when the skin is exposed to sunshine, and helps to mineralize the bones
- Increasing the amount of iron in the blood, creating a more “magnetic” look
- Possibly reducing breast cancer up to 30-40%, and ovarian cancer by 80% (according to some studies)
- Normalizing hormone levels in both men and women
- Combating depression
Believe it or not, sunshine-associated cancers (non-melanoma) increase MOST where sunscreens are most heavily promoted.
When we formulated THE SOLUTION our goal was to provide the skin maximum nourishment, to make it as beautiful and youthful as possible. In addition to avoiding parabens and harsh synthetic fillers, we also decided against including sunscreen. People use THE SOLUTION day and night and is simply no need apply sun-protective compounds (even “natural” ones) if you aren’t going to be outside for an extended period of time.
The best protection against visible sun damage, other than limiting exposure, is the use of antioxidants, which offer excellent natural sun protection - by protecting white blood cells from oxidation and other effects of sun damage. So, instead of sunscreen we decided to load THE SOLUTION with tons of antioxidants.
Applying antioxidants on your face isn’t enough, though. They should be a part of your diet, too, so eat your fruits and vegetables!
Of course, nobody wants to avoid sun exposure all the time. When the situation calls for a sunscreen I really like J/A/S/O/N’s, since it is natural and paraben and PABA-free.
